HW Creativity
New media has allowed an average person to be able to learn how to create and upload their own videos. The growth of YouTube made it so television and radio were no longer the only options to share one's talent or idea for a show. A Parody is defined by Merriam-Webster as "A
literary or musical work in which the style of an author or work is
closely imitated for comic effect or in ridicule." and parody videos once were extremely popular on YouTube.
Mash-ups are another popular video genre where people can show their creativity. In the article, "Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody of Its Critters. But Why?" by Brooks Barnes, Dan Martinsen, a Nickelodeon spokesman was quoted saying, "Our audiences can creatively mash video from our content as much and as often as they like." and, ". . .that was a very nice edit job by whoever did the SpongeBob mash". It is rare that an employee of a big entertainment company notices the work of an average person, but through YouTube, and new media in general, the chances of it happening are higher than before.
